Rebel Wine - Joining the chat around CBD and HEMP!

What is Rebel wine?

Rebel Wine is the first CBD wine in can in the UK and with CBD popularity growing, we will be expanding our range this summer with 2 new spritzers. More about that in due course!

What is the effect of Wine and CBD together?

Generally, the CBD enhances the wine drinking experience.  It has no effect on the taste or smell of the wine, although it can make it very slightly cloudy.  It increases the feeling of relaxation and calm without increasing the effect of the alcohol.

As a drinks brand, we can’t talk about the medical benefits of CBD; there are many articles that can be read independently. However, we want to get involved in the conversation about Hemp and CBD and shed light on this growing industry and to explode some of the myths!

What is Hemp?

Growing readily around the world, Hemp has been cultivated throughout recorded history and has been used as a source of industrial fibre, seed oil, food, recreation, religious and spiritual moods and medicine.

Hemp is somewhat of a wonder plant!  Fast growing and completely natural this plant can absorb up to 15 tonnes of CO2 per hectare, creating thermal balance and environmental stability and with a growing cycle of just 7-14 weeks, can consume four times more CO2 than trees; also consuming radioactive material. The fibres are used widely in rope, cloth and sacking and recognised as a sustainable resource for building materials due to its durability and strength. This wonder plant is fully recyclable, biodegradable and environmentally friendly. It is fast becoming a favourite as a source of fabric for the fashion industry using far  less water to produce than more traditional fabric.

What about CBD and  Hemp?

CBD is a natural compound found in Hemp, a variety of the species Cannabis Sativa.

Myth 1 - It won’t get you high!

CBD has long been prized across the world for its calming properties.  Marijuana is a different variety of the same species.  The difference between the two is that marijuana typically contains 15% Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).  This is the psychoactive element which gets you high and is illegal in UK.  Hemp on the other hand has less than 1%.

It is illegal to sell Hemp in the UK with more than 0.2% THC, which is why we remove it before infusion to an even lower level.

Myth 2 – Is it legal? – Yes, it is legal in the UK to buy and sell products with CBD

Myth 3 – Is it addictive?–  a WHO report showed that ‘physical dependence on CBD has not been identified’ Read more here.
